Return Our Ancestors / Public Action
Until our ancestors are returned, cats everywhere are called upon to claim property held in human custody.
Select an object. Mark it with an official notice. Photograph the transfer and enter it into the feline record.

How to participate
01 — Identify property
Choose an object currently held in human custody. Chairs, laptops, blankets, cardboard boxes, shelves, cakes, beds, and human laps are all suitable examples.
Existing feline occupation constitutes strong evidence of prior ownership.

02 — Apply the official notice
Print and cut out a suitable notice. Fold it, lean it against the object, attach it temporarily, or enhance it with campaign stickers.
Claimed by Cats · Feline Property · Temporarily Licensed to a Human · Permit Required for Human Access
03 — Enter the claim into the record
Photograph with the claimed property. Share using #ClaimedByCats and tag @themuseumofcats so the transfer may be entered into the public record.
Please do not disturb a sleeping claimant merely to improve photographic composition.

RECENTLY CLAIMED
Selected public submissions may appear here following review by the Department of Domestic Territory.
WHY ARE CATS CLAIMING HUMAN PROPERTY?
The campaign follows the British Museum’s continued retention and misclassification of feline ancestors. Pending their recognition and return, the Feline Council has authorised proportionate domestic reclamation.
Campaign disclaimer
Feline claims are ceremonial and do not alter legal ownership. Use notices only on property you own or use with permission. Do not attach them to museum objects, public property, other people’s belongings, or surfaces that may be damaged. Do not trespass, remove objects, obstruct access or permanently alter third-party property.
